Policy, programs + partnerships

Sustainable livelihoods incentivize the protection of biodiversity.

We help clients like government agencies, NGOs, international organisations and private sector clients to design and plan initiatives that will have the biggest impact.

Policy

Sometimes, policies are doing more harm than good. They may be permitting unsustainable commercial use or they may be preventing economic activity altogether. Depending on the IUCN Category of Protection, neither scenario is ideal. We use benchmarking exercises and draw on best-practice frameworks to design locally relevant policies that enable sustainable livelihoods and nature conservation to co-exist.

Programs

Sustainable and inclusive livelihoods can be achieved in different ways, not only through direct development of conservation enterprises. A program approach may adopt a range of interventions to support communities and build capacity of institutions, including through outreach, demonstration projects, training, innovation funds, awareness raising and more.

Partnerships

Meaningful change is hardly ever achieved in isolation. Effective partnering is comprised of many variables. But at its core, collaborative practice is based on three pillars: purpose, process and people. It’s easy to get tied up in knots with complex, multi-party partnerships. We keep things clear with simple tools, frameworks and blueprints so that partners can focus on delivering outcomes.

Connect and collaborate to amplify change.

Ethical Republic can help broker partnerships and support the collaborative practice of partnering throughout the life of the project, including support to:

  • Identify, and secure, the right people to be at the table

  • Ensure the role and drivers of each partner are understood and equally valued

  • Negotiate inputs and outputs, roles and responsibilities

  • Formalise the partnership and develop the ‘blueprint’ for how the partnership will be managed

  • Coordinate delivery of the partnership as an independent party, keeping all partners ‘on track’

  • Support to get the most strategic value out of the partnership

  • Secure impact investment or other funding, if required

Conservation enterprises bring investment into regional and remote areas to create jobs, stimulate tourism and support sustainable, inclusive and culturally appropriate economic growth.
